Brazilian-born comic and actress Jade Catta-Preta is gushing over her new gig, and has big plans for rejuvenating E!’s The Soup.
During a chat with AfterBuzz TV’s host Vanise Sayrie on the red carpet at the NBCUniversal Winter TCA event in Los Angeles, Catta-Preta shared her thoughts on one of the evenings most exciting announcements: after more than four years off the air, E! will revive its hit pop culture series, The Soup, with Catta-Preta in the hosts seat.
Ive got a lot of mean Facebook messages, Catta-Preta started saying, but besides that, people are excited for a change.
The enduring franchise that began on E! as Talk Soup in 1991 features a comedic take on outrageous highlights from daytime talk shows, reality TV series and now viral internet videos. By 2006 it became the third highest rated show on the network. The series, which racked up a total of 3,329 episodes, helped turn former hosts Greg Kinnear and Joel McHale into TV stars.
Its time for a womans perspective, Catta-Preta said of the reboot.
Some of her female comedic inspirations include Sarah Silverman and Maria Bamford hence her stand-up comedy background. Catta-Preta performs all over the country both in English and Portuguese and you can see her regularly at many comedy clubs. She is also a super fan of television. Some of her favorites shows include Love Island (UK), 90 Day Fiancé and The Real Housewives franchise on Bravo.
I’m at home making fun of it with my friends, Catta-Preta explained, and now theres just a camera and I’m getting paid for it.
Along with producers, she scours the internet for click-worthy clips and is involved in the writers room.
Jades quick wit and keen observations will provide a much-needed voice in todays pop culture landscape delivered in a way that only The Soup can, Rod Aissa, Executive Vice President of Original Programming and Development for Oxygen and E!, shared in an announcement.
Catta-Preta ensures fans of the long running series are in for a candy-coated treat from the E! laugh factory. Plus, although the show is scripted, a large portion of it is ad-libbed.
It’s not serious, Catta-Preta joked, we’re making fun of TV.
The Soup returns as a weekly half-hour series on February 12, 2020.
